01 / WAYFIND / Product Exploration

What if you could communicate without speaking the same language?

WAYFIND is an independent product exploration into how visual communication could help travelers express simple needs, understand responses and navigate unfamiliar moments without depending entirely on language.

02 / The Question

You know what you need.

You just don't know how to ask.

Travel doesn't always become difficult because the information is complicated.

Sometimes the problem is much smaller.

You know where you need to go. You know what you need. You just don't share the language of the person in front of you.

Maybe the problem isn't translation.
03 / What We Noticed

Intent can be understood without translating everything.

A traveler doesn't necessarily need to translate an entire conversation.

Sometimes they only need to communicate one simple intention.

01
Where?
02
How much?
03
Which one?
04
Can you help?
04 / The Question Behind the Product

Can visual language become a bridge between two people?

Instead of designing another translation-heavy travel application, WAYFIND explores whether common travel intentions can be communicated through a simple visual language.

05 / What We Chose to Build

Two things.
Not everything.

The first version deliberately focuses on two small moments of travel friction.

01 / Communicate

COMMUNICATE

Express a simple intention using visual prompts designed to be shown directly to another person.

02 / Convert

CONVERT

Quickly understand foreign prices in your own currency without turning the experience into a finance application.

06 / The Core Experience

Start with intent.
Not language.

The communication flow is designed as a small loop between two people.

07 / Communication

Start with what you need.

WAYFIND doesn't begin by asking which language someone speaks. It begins with: What are you trying to do?

08 / Show

Turn an intention into something you can show.

Select the situation.

Select the intention.

WAYFIND turns it into a simple visual question that can be shown directly to another person.

The phone becomes the conversation starter.

09 / The Other Side

Asking isn't enough.

A question only works when the other person can respond — and the traveler can understand what that response means.
WAYFIND response and understanding flow
The goal isn't to translate every conversation.

The goal is to understand what to do next.
10 / Beyond the Screen

The screen isn't being used at a desk.

It might be used while walking through a crowded station. Under bright sunlight. With one hand. While the traveler is already trying to communicate with someone. The interface therefore needs to be understood quickly — not studied.

11 / What We Questioned

What happens when there is no internet?

The core communication experience should not depend entirely on connectivity.
Core / Offline

Available locally.

  • Communication categories
  • Visual questions
  • Icon system
  • Predefined response patterns
Future / Connected

Needs connectivity.

  • Live translation
  • GPS
  • Dynamic itinerary
  • Device-to-device communication

12 / Another Small Friction

Language isn't the only thing that changes when you travel.

Numbers do too. WAYFIND keeps currency conversion deliberately simple. No expense management. No financial dashboard. Just: “What does this price mean to me?”

13 / The System

Designed to be understood before it is read.

The visual system stays light, high-contrast and intentionally restrained so the interface doesn't compete with the communication itself.

14 / From Thinking to Making

An idea becomes more useful when you can put it in someone's hands.

The project moves from UX research and strategy into a high-fidelity product interface.

01 / Think

UX Research
& Flow

Research, synthesis and experience mapping helped define the structure behind WAYFIND before moving into interface design.

02 / Design

High-Fidelity
UI

The UX thinking was translated into a high-fidelity interface and interactive product prototype.

15 / Scope

Not everything needs to be built.

WAYFIND could eventually become much larger. But adding features doesn't automatically create a better experience. The first version exists to test one question well.

16 / What This Exploration Taught Us

Sometimes the smallest problem reveals the bigger experience.

Communication isn't always verbal. Gestures, icons, directions and confirmations can become part of the interaction.
Simplicity requires decisions. Reducing the product to two primary actions created more clarity than adding features.
Offline can be an experience decision. For travel, availability can become part of the experience strategy.
Knowing what not to build is part of designing. Scope is not only a development constraint. It is a product decision.

Maybe travel communication isn't about translating everything.

Maybe it's about making intent easier to understand.
